La République du Congo est située au centre-ouest de l'Afrique. En 1910, le Congo est devenu l'un des quatre territoires de l'Afrique Équatoriale Française. Cette fédération a été dissoute en 1958 et le Congo est alors devenu un membre autonome de la Communauté française. Depuis 1995, le Congo utilise les billets de banque communs émis par l'autorité monétaire des États d'Afrique Centrale.

Banque des États de l'Afrique Centrale

La BEAC a été créé 22 Novembre 1972 à fournir la politique monétaire, y compris une série de billets de banque pour les pays de l'Union Douanière et Économique de l'Afrique Centrale (UDEAC), qui comprend le Cameroun, la République Centrafricaine, Tchad, Congo, Gabon, et Guinée Équatoriale. En 1999, l'UDEAC a été remplacée par la Communauté Économique et Monétaire de l'Afrique Centrale (CEMAC). La BEAC fonctionne encore aujourd'hui, reste la délivrance de billet, en CFA (convertible en euro).
