Banque de l'Afrique Occidentale
Fondée en 1903 à Dakar, Sénégal pour succéder à la Banque du Sénégal, la BAO était la banque centrale de l'Afrique Occidentale Française, qui comprenait les territoires de la Côte d'Ivoire, du Dahomey (aujourd'hui Bénin), de la Guinée Française, du Soudan Français (aujourd'hui Mali), de la Mauritanie, du Niger, du Sénégal et de la Haute-Volta (aujourd'hui Burkina Faso). Le BAO a continué à fonctionner jusqu'en 1955, date à laquelle il a transféré sa responsabilité à l'Institut d'Emission de l'A.O.F. et du Togo. En 1959, la Banque Centrale des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest (BCEAO) a repris cette fonction.
